3 Reasons You Need to Start Using Instagram Stories

instagram storiesInstagram lovers, listen up!

Whether you’re on the quest to become an Instagram star, or simply want to take your profile up a notch, the best strategy on how to stand out on this popular social media platform is shifting.

While posting to your feed regularly, using hashtags, and responding to comments used to be a great strategy to build a solid following, the current trend is all about using Instagram Stories.

Since launching their Stories feature in August 2016, Instagram has incrementally added more and more updates. You can now include boomerang videos in your Stories, add mentions, hashtag stickers, link to outside URLs, and–most recently–add selfie filters that mirror the floral crowns and bunny ears that made Snapchat such a sensation.

“You Had Us At Hello;” Apple iPhone Turns 10

In June 2007 Apple released the very first iPhone – an iPod, phone and Internet connection all in one, operated via touchscreen and as futuristic-looking as a sci-fi gizmo. The earliest iPhone didn’t have all the features or apps it has today, but it was revolutionary nonetheless. David Pogue, of Yahoo Tech, who was one of the very first journalists to play with the iPhone before its release, reports on the history of the personal device that changed the world.

As Apple celebrates the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, a device all but culturally synonymous with the word smartphone, we are a byproduct. With 3 1/2 trillion still-analog photos to be digitized, the billion plus smartphones are missing something. Pictures. Decades past memories which need to be scanned, and that’s partly how ScanMyPhotos.com has achieved this new milestone, as we scanned our 400 millionth pictures. Most are then uploaded to share on iPhones and all photo sharing devices.  .

CBS Sunday Morning celebrates the Apple iPhone as it turns 10 years old. Happy Anniversary, iPhone!

The New Apple Memories Slideshow App is a Hit

Movies Made For You On iPhone 7 Missing 3 1/2 Trillion Nostalgic Pictures Not Yet Digitized

The latest Apple innovation is it’s Memories app to share your pictures. The problem is what’s missing? decades of photo snapshots, 35mm slides and film negatives representing all those delightful past memories, not yet stored on your phone. Those pictures are tucked away in photo albums, scattered in shoe boxes, and worse, cluttered draws and dusty cabinets — fading away from the ravages of time.

The Memories tab in the iPhotos app automatically creates beautiful movies out of the photos and videos in your camera roll in a matter of seconds. The revamped Photos app in iOS 10 app includes a new Memories tab, which groups photos into events automatically but creates customized slideshow movies.

How Apple Memories works: On your Mac, open an Album and click Show as Memory in the header. If you’re in the Photos tab, click the title of a group of photos to open them as a Memory. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap on the header of any Moment, Collection, Year, or Album. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Add to Memories.

Rediscover favorite and forgotten moments from deep in your photo library and from all your analog snapshots – once scanned. Memories automatically creates curated collections of your most meaningful photos and, 35mm slides and film negatives.

When creating Memories, go to the Albums Tab. Tap on the plus button to create a new album and then name the album. Select the photos you would like to add to the memory. And, that’s where the problem is quickly noticed.  Mostly all photos on your smartphones are recent pictures — if you’re like us, of the food you ate last evening.  To share wondrous past nostalgic pictures, it’s this easy to get everything digitized at ScanMyPhotos.com. As you can see, we are huge fans of these photo-sharing apps because it incentivises all app users to first digitize.

Photo Study Reveals 81% Of All Pictures Digitized Used For Social Media Sharing

150dpi Photo Scanning Is The New Norm

Today, ScanMyPhotos.com announced the results of a 3 month study of 940 consumers who had their pictures digitized. The results of their top use is no surprise, as 81% of all analog photos scanned are just used for social media sharing.

Archiving and photo preservation has taken a less aggressive role, as people are mostly using pictures to share.  The takeaway is that the once standard 600 dpi high resolution quality is not as necessary today.

The Race To Digitize Pictures Is On

This is big news for Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and the leading photo-sharing app, Google Photos. Most people were just uploading recent pictures captured from smartphone devices, yet there are 3 1/2 trillion analog snapshots which are not yet digitized. With the advent of bulk photo scanning, the race to digitize has taken on new urgency and dimensions.

DPI (Dots Per Inch) or PPI (Pixels Per Inch) relates to the number of device pixels per inch (pixel density). The higher the number, the smaller the size of the pixels, so graphics are perceived as more crisp and less pixelated. Good quality printing uses around 300dpi which is higher than most displays. But, most smartphone devices, messaging apps, like WhatsApp, and computer monitors demand a much lower and often compressed file size.

Therefore, for the 81% of people just digitizing pictures, today, the new norm is 150dpi. ScanMyPhotos.com provides all three services, from social media scanning at 150dpi, to 300 dpi for archival scanning, and the ultra high professional 600dpi quality scanning. If you are not enlarging your pictures, most people just need 150 or 300dpi scans today.

Details and how to order 150, 300, and 600dpi professional scans are provided at ScanMyPhotos.com
