- What resolution are my photos scanned at?
ScanMyPhotos.com scans all pictures at 300 dpi. The final file size will vary depending upon the size of the original photograph. A standard 4×6 is usually about 1 to 1.5 MB. Many websites refer to resolution in pixel-by-pixel terms. To determine your picture’s pixel-by-pixel resolution, multiply the inches by 300 dpi. For example, a 4″x6″ print will have a resolution of 1200×1800 (4″ x 300dpi = 1200 pixels, 6″x 300dpi = 1800 pixels).
- Are my photos returned to me?
Yes, we return your photos along with the digital CD-Rom/DVD of your scanned photos. We do not offer a service to dispose of or keep your photos. We will return all photographs with your order.

- How long will it take to complete my scanning order?
We usually complete photo scanning and mail it back to you on the same business day we receive it. For larger orders like many slides or negatives, it generally takes a few days, and we send everything back on the same day it’s ready. Keep in mind, we don’t control the United States Postal Service or other courier companies, so we can’t be responsible for delays or lost items in transit. We handle all work at our Irvine, California headquarters. Most of our services, such as photo scanning, reprints, enlargements, photo memory books, and photo cards, are rushed through our quick same-day service. Restoring photos and scanning slides or negatives might take a bit longer depending on the specifics of your order. We also offer a Rush – next-up scanning option, which puts your order at the front of the line. You can choose this feature on the “Option #2” order form.

These quick photo scans help you digitally preserve your everyday photos. Please keep in mind, they are not intended for archiving professional images with museum-quality clarity. Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds on high-speed photo scans. By choosing this service, you understand and agree that while we do our best, we can’t guarantee the exact quality of each reproduction or perform individual quality control because of the very high volume of photos we process.
- Are these scans designed for personal archiving and sharing, or can I make giant museum-quality poster enlargements from the files?
- Can I use the newly scanned digital DVD to view my photos on the TV with my DVD player?
The DVD we give you isn’t a video DVD. Instead, it’s just a DVD with your JPG files on it. Many slideshow programs, like iMovie ® or Nero PhotoShow ®, can help you turn those photos into a movie you can watch on your TV. However, please note we don’t provide these programs. Some newer DVD players do have a slideshow feature, but they often limit the number of photos you can load—usually fewer than 1,000. Based on what we’ve seen, most DVD players load up to about 200 images, so it’s helpful to keep that in mind.
