What is Accepted/Not Accepted for Scanning?
-
Standard 35mm slides mounted in either cardboard or plastic mounts.
-
What is not accepted: Slides mounted in metal brackets, unmounted slides, uncut rolls of slide film, medium format mounted/unmounted slides.
-
Only slides contained within the small box will be scanned. Any slide that is not within the confines of the smaller sealed box will be returned unscanned.
Preparing your Slides for Scanning
- Remove all slides from metal brackets, carousels or any other slide holder.
- We recommend grouping them in batches of about 50 and rubber banding them together to prevent damage during shipping.
- If possible, group all of your Kodachrome slides together. Digital ICE cannot be used with B&W or Kodachrome slides. These slides will be scanned without Digital ICE. Kodachrome slide film uses a unique dye that responds differently from other slide films. Due to the nature of the dye and the Kodachrome film development process, Digital ICE can misinterpret certain image detail as a defect and will attempt to remove it from the image.
- Note: Our scanners are set up to scan standard 35mm slides. If we receive 126mm mounted slides, some of your image will be cropped off the top and bottom while some of the slide mount will be scanned on the right and left. Similarly, if we receive 110 mounted slides, your image will be smaller with a large black border on all sides. We cannot alter this. See the image below for diagrams showing the crop and an example of what the scan looks like.
Packing the Box
- You will receive two boxes for shipping. One measures 9" x 6" x 2" (small box) when sealed, the other 11" x 9" x 6" (large box). Place your slides for scanning in the small box. Ideally, you should be able to fit three rows of about 180-185 slides going lengthwise in each in the box.
- Seal the small box and place inside large box that already has postage on it. You must add lots of extra packing material (newspapers, packing popcorn, etc.) to help protect your slides and make sure there is no movement or shifting in the box - pack it tightly. Stuff your box well and don't be afraid of tape to ensure your box remains sealed. Make sure your box is completely full and solid and tightly sealed.

- Drop your box off at your local post office and you are done.
Legal Stuff
- Due to the nature of the prepaid boxes, we cannot offer a refund once the empty box has been shipped.
- Due to swift technological changes, your returned prepaid box order for scanning must be received back to ScanMyPhotos.com within 364-days from the date the order was placed. Otherwise, the box expires and no consideration, obligation or monetary reimbursement of any kind will be provided
- If multiple boxes are ordered, there is no need to send them all in at the same time. Fill one up, save the others for a later time, or send them all in at the same time. It is up to you.
- If the preceding guidelines are not followed, the unprocessed order will be returned to you and a handling fee not to exceed $25.00, plus the return postage will be charged to your card.
