Lois and her mom

In the daily course of our lives, it’s easy to get caught up in the present and focus on the negativity. Job stresses, personal life issues, bills to pay—the list goes on. But in the back of our mind exists millions of moments that when we recall, will bring an instant smile to our face. This is the magic of what pictures can do, and it’s why ScanMyPhotos customer Lois Thar decided to give the gift of the past to her mother for her 85th birthday.

“Mom’s birthday was coming up and we wanted to digitize her old print photos and create a slideshow for her birthday. We got the idea while we were cleaning up her apartment and found this big box of photos and I was like ‘Oookay, what can I do with these?’”

The Surprise Anniversary Gift that Garnered Happy Tears

anniversary gift

We all know that classic love story where two kids grow up next door to each other and eventually fall in love, get married, and live a happily ever after tale. Well, one ScanMyPhotos customer shared a similar story with us–but with a twist.

Brian Jorgensen and his wife didn’t grow up together in the same sleepy home town. They didn’t share a similar childhood, background, or even culture. But despite their different upbringings, they got together in high school and just recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary where Brian pulled together a very special and touching gift for his wife.

“I was looking to scan the print photos I had of my wife and I so I could surprise her with them for our 20th wedding anniversary party. That’s how I found out about ScanMyPhotos—through a Google search.”

ScanMyPhoto’s Customer Helps Grandparents Connect with Grandkids via Technology

grandparents connectThese days, it seems like the only people who understand technology are those born with an iPad in their hands. For the rest of us, the rapidly advancing tech can be a challenge to get a handle on. This is why ScanMyPhoto’s customer and proud grandfather Peter Farnsworth has made it his personal mission to use technology to connect with younger generations—specifically, the grandkids.

“When I became a grandparent I decided it would be a good time to transfer my knowledge to my grandchildren.” Peter explained. “I realized there is no shoe box in the attic for these kids, no sets of letters from grandma and grandpa. So, I wanted to use other things to develop a 1-1 relationship with each grandchild. I decided to create a blog for each grandchild stocked with the stories and photos I’ve amassed throughout my lifetime.”

As Peter started his 1-1 project, he realized others could benefit from the cool technology he uncovered during his research. The result is his novel: The New Grandparent’s Guide to Technology.

We are all made up of moments—our first steps, first words, first kiss. Over time, these moments accumulate like snowfall and shape our present reality. But misunderstandings can arise when other people fail to see all the moments that shape who we are. They don’t see why we do the things we do or make the choices we make.

This is where photos can help.

In fact, ScanMyPhotos customer Max Branscomb used photos to illustrate the beautiful connection he had, and always will have, with his wife. About a year ago, while he was chatting with friends, he realized he never really shared with them the reason why he was constantly visiting his wife in a care facility.
