If you live in or are planning to visit the southwestern United States this weekend, you’re in for a rare treat: an annular solar eclipse will occur Sunday afternoon. This is the first solar eclipse viewable within the continental United States in more than 18 years.
If you’ll be near the California-Oregon border, Reno, the Grand Canyon, Albuquerque or Lubbock, Texas, you’ll see an amazing view of the sun’s corona appearing to spill over the moon’s edges on all sides. It’s dangerous to look directly at the eclipse so if you plan on experiencing this rare sight, protect your eyes with the proper equipment.
